Work
I'm most useful at the point where a startup's architecture has to grow up: several apps in one monorepo, a backend with real third-party integrations, compliance constraints that don't negotiate, and an AI layer that has to be reliable rather than impressive. I work end to end — RFC, decision record, implementation plan, code, infrastructure — and I prefer to pair with the people who will maintain it after me.

The sidecar I didn't build
- Summary
- The RFC proposed a ClamAV sidecar for HIPAA uploads. Managed scanning cut worker memory from 8 GB to 2 GB and monthly scanning cost by about 90%, and the quarantine policy turned out to be the real system.

A chat-led app next to the dashboard
- Summary
- A conversational mode added to a customer app without a rewrite. Next.js Multi-Zone, a mandatory NestJS gateway, token streaming from Lambda Function URLs, and business-critical actions resolved in code rather than by the model.

The subscription that went deaf
- Summary
- A Salesforce platform-event subscription stopped delivering after days of uptime with no errors and a green health check. The bug was in the CometD transport; the fix was mitigations now and a protocol change next.

- Summary
- A marketing site's video bandwidth went up a thousandfold and the cache headers did nothing. The fix was moving the bytes off Vercel's edge entirely, with a redirect the same afternoon and CloudFront for good.

- Summary
- A proof of concept for AI agents on real phone calls under HIPAA constraints, from an empty repo to inbound and outbound calls with transfer and DTMF, plus a setup guide that works without me on the call.

Splitting a serverless monolith
- Summary
- One Serverless Framework stack with 25+ functions, 5–15 minute deploys and a 500-resource ceiling in sight. Serverless Compose, a long-lived infrastructure stack and container-image handlers brought deploys down to 2–3 minutes per stack.

- Summary
- A move to a new identity provider across several environments, with real users who must not notice. The sequence that made a one-way door two-way: validate first, keep the old provider live, verify each environment separately.

A code-review harness that argues with itself
- Summary
- Single-pass reviews kept missing cross-cutting bugs. A set of specialist reviewers, each scoped to a dimension and forced to fact-check its own findings against the source, catches them without crying wolf.

Senior Software ArchitectTurnout
Turnout is a US advocacy platform, nationwide: human advocates backed by AI who help people win Social Security Disability claims, claim VA benefits, navigate healthcare and get their children the right school support. I lead technical design across an Nx monorepo (three Next.js apps, a NestJS backend on ECS Fargate, Prisma on PostgreSQL) and the Python serverless layer that runs the AI agents.
- Established the architecture decision record practice — twelve ADRs so far, covering auth, API versioning, the CRM migration, payouts, the case state machine, the chat-led customer app and notifications.
- Designed the HIPAA-conscious upload pipeline: switching from a ClamAV sidecar to GuardDuty Malware Protection cut worker memory from 8 GB to 2 GB and monthly scanning cost by ~90%.
- Diagnosed silent event loss in long-running Salesforce subscriptions down to the CometD transport; shipped watchdog and replay-ID mitigations and specified the Pub/Sub API (gRPC) migration.
